Interactive Whiteboards
Five weeks into the course and we have heard much about interactive whiteboards and technology going wrong. In my daughter’s school they were without electricity for one day and apparently no work could be done without the whiteboard!
I found the lesson on 8/10/12 very informative as my experience of viewing work on a whiteboard was limited. My pre-course experience was in the Foundation Stage where I had seen the children using programs to sort shapes,
colours and numbers and to dress a person. Other than that to view clips from you tube. The Phonics lessons in school have been done using the whiteboard and the lessons made me appreciate how the technology can enhance a lesson, for example using the hide and reveal function. My experience in using PowerPoint for both preparing and giving presentations is high and I was interested to hear Zita explain the benefits to using the interactive whiteboards in comparison. In particular I can appreciate how they can really be used to drive the lesson forward and to give something for the visual learners to remember, such as a video clip.
I liked the idea how the Learning Objective could be written at the top of the screen at the start of the lesson and then brought back for the
plenary at the end.
I installed the Smart software on my laptop and also explored using a Promethean Board on one of our Phonics visits to the school in Didsbury.
I am using the Promethean Board on GPP.
