Personal profile
I started my Primary PGCE at The University of Manchester on 3 September 2012, following a career in Professional Services Marketing. I took a career break to look after my young family and during this time I volunteered in school and helped in different year groups. I really enjoyed this experience and appreciated the pace, challenge, variety and the progression that the children made over the academic year.

School experience (voluntary)St Wilfrid’s Catholic Primary School, Northwich, Cheshire (2010-2012)
Key Stage 1 Reception: I listened to different groups of readers each week and this was where I first realised the huge difference in ability levels at this early stage and the techniques and strategies to use, such as discussing the pictures, segmenting and blending the words and practising the high frequency words. Key Stage 2 Year 3: This was where I first saw the Learning Objective being written on the board and discussed. I learned the importance of differentiation and finding a “hook” to draw the children in, breaking the task down, as well as constantly reinforcing the key messages. Year 5: I worked between the two year-group classes and I observed cross-curricular work with the Highwayman poem studied in Literacy bringing in art, drama, history and ICT. In Numeracy I helped in both the ability groups and was able to see how the lower ability class had much more explanation and discussion, whereas the higher ability group moved at a faster pace and had more mental work. |
InterestsMy interests are varied and focus around my family. We spend regular weekends and holidays in North Wales where we enjoy walking, climbing, cycling, swimming and boating on the Menai Straits. We are members of the National Trust and like exploring new areas.
I am a member of the PTA at my children's school and have been actively involved in events such as the summer and Christmas fairs and Mother's/Father's day surprise rooms. I also enjoy reading, home improvement, gardening and travelling. I attend zumba lessons and used to be a member of an Irish Dancing troupe in Edinburgh. |
